Visitors to Banff and Lake Louise are advised to use Canadian currency. Taxes

Purchases in all of Alberta are subject to a 7% National Goods and Services Tax (GST). However, there is no provincial sales tax , unlike other provinces where additional taxes range from 5-10%. If you do not reside in Canada you can you can recover the 7% national tax on products that you take home with you. Ask for paperwork at the border.

Electricity

All of Canada uses 110-volt, electric power. Appliances designed for use in the United States will work normally. Appliances designed for use in Europe will require an adapter.

Getting Around

Many activities in Banff are within a short walking distance (within 20 minutes) from the center of Town. Several forms of public transportation are also available:
Banff Transit (aka "The Happy Bus")
Daily bus service between the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, Town center, Tunnel Mountain hotels, the campground (in summer), and along Banff Avenue (fee charged).

Taxicabs
Several taxi companies provide service to Banff Hotels and the Banff/Lake Louise area 24 hours a day. Taxis may be found at taxi stands at many Banff Hotels, or along main avenues or hailed on the street.

Ski Shuttles
Several ski shuttles are available throughout the winter for transportation between most Banff hotels and the three ski areas (Sunshine Village, Ski Banff @ Norquay, and Lake Louise.

Tipping

Tips and service charges are not usually added to bills in Whistler. Generally, 15% of the total bill minus tax is customary. About 1$ per bag for bellmen (more in high-end hotels) and $1 a day for maids ($2 in luxury hotels) is the norm.

The airport closest to Banff is Calgary International (airport code: YYC), which is 125 km (75 miles) east of Banff.
